One of Lalor’s busiest intersections will be safer and more reliable with works now underway to replace the Dalton and Childs roads roundabout with traffic lights.
We had a site inspection today for an update on the progress on the $5.54 million project. As well as installing traffic lights, the upgraded intersection will include dedicated turning lanes on all approaches, new pedestrian crossings and priority boxes to improve safety for cyclists.

Raised pavement will be installed at the entrance to the intersection as an innovative way to further improve safety by reducing the speed of vehicles as they travel through the intersection. Works are moving ahead on the upgrade and over the coming weeks, improved street lighting will be installed around the intersection with road resurfacing and new traffic lights to follow.

Construction on the upgrade is expected to be completed by mid-2017.

This intersection has been a concern for the local community for many years and the Andrews Labor Government is taking another important step to fix traffic congestion with this upgrade. This upgrade will unlock a significant bottleneck. It will mean shorter travel times and less time stuck in traffic.
