EDUCATION STATE TAKES SHAPE AT THOMASTOWN EAST PRIMARY SCHOOL

Construction for Thomastown East Primary School is on track with the appointment of Simbuilt Pty Ltd to build the $334,000 project, funded in the 2015-16 State Budget.

I visited the school today to make the announcement and celebrate the bright future ahead for students and teachers. The building works will include maintenance to the Administration Block, which includes carpeting, painting, upgrading toilets, asbestos removal, new furniture in the sick bay, and a new PA system. Various site infrastructure will also be addressed in the playground area.

The works will be complete in October 2016.

The Andrews Labor Government is building the Education State so that every Victorian gets the opportunity for a great education and every community has access to a great school. The Andrews Labor Government’s first Budget in 2015-16 provided $325 million to renovate, refurbish or rebuild 67 schools – 25 of them in our fast-growing outer suburbs and 21 in regional Victoria.

The most recent Victorian Labor Budget 2016-17 invests over $924 million in building new schools and upgrading classrooms, while a $200 million funding boost will help us better maintain existing school facilities.

This includes $375 million to plan, upgrade and rebuild at least 147 schools – 87 of them in Melbourne’s suburbs and 60 in regional Victoria.

The Budget also provides the investment needed to plan, acquire land for and build a total of 23 new schools.
