VicRoads is working hard to deliver the O’Herns Road / Hume Freeway interchange project as soon as possible. Once completed the project will relieve traffic pressure on Cooper Street, Miller Street and High Street by providing a new access point to the Hume Freeway.

At the moment VicRoads is undertaking design work and is preparing for construction. So far VicRoads has completed surveying work, geotechnical and pavement investigations, flora and fauna investigations and aboriginal cultural heritage investigations. Currently the design of the project is being produced including landscaping options to improve amenity of O’Herns Road and the new interchange.

Construction on the new interchange at O’Herns Road and Hume Freeway will begin in early 2018 and be completed in late 2019. We’ve been able to accelerate the intersection works at O’Herns Road and High Street and work to upgrade the intersection will begin in mid 2017 and be completed by the end of the year.

Upgrading the intersection to a set of traffic lights and increasing the number of traffic lanes at the intersection will significantly improve the traffic flow and allow more vehicles to pass through the intersection.

In the next few months we can expect to see underground utilities being moved to new locations to allow road construction to be completed quicker.

The local community is encouraged to provide feedback to VicRoads about the project at its online consultation forum at engage.vicroads.vic.gov.au or via email at ohernsroad@roads.vic.gov.au
