The Allan Labor Government is helping more young people aspiring towards a career in media to develop skills and gain industry experience, with more funding for a leading community radio station to continue broadcasting.

Minister for Youth Natalie Suleyman today announced continued funding of $100,000 will support SYN Media to continue its community radio program for this year.

The Labor Government is proud to have invested more than $1 million in SYN Media to support young people to develop skills and gain experiences in radio broadcasting, television production, multi-platform screen content and other digital media.

SYN is a youth-run media organisation that provides training and peer mentoring for young people to produce radio and television programs, as well as capacity building activities for young volunteers who perform management and operational roles at SYN.

SYN Media also provides advice and support to help other organisations develop and promote young people’s engagement in community radio programming, ensuring that issues important to young Victorians are heard and their contributions celebrated across the state.

Up to 1,500 young people have volunteered at SYN over the past decade, and thousands more have incorporated the platform’s training and education programs into their studies and future careers.
